How to crack/smash any technical interview with proper guide

The technical interview is different from any other interview, it’s a generic, ultra-care process that tests coding skills, problem-solving abilities and personality.

How to crack/smash any technical interview with proper guide

As for freshers' point of view it is one of the important phases to get into a company’s recruitment procedure if your method is in the right way, otherwise it may be one of the hardest blocks to cross. As from researchers people struggling in Technical Interviews for so far and they have seen only some of them getting selected at the end. That’s why this blog/article is to help you understand how any company seeks in interviewing while they are conducting Technical Interviews.

As their are few steps and phase to follow in order to pass with flying colors :

  • Know background knowledge of company: This is a very important part that you should know about the company before sitting for the interview. As it will give you an idea and learn which kind of questions an company interviewer would ask. So this will give you an idea that every company has a particular type of question, that they ask and more many times they not, as these questions are repeated and for that purpose you have to do a background check and which becomes useful about any company’s interview. For example, as you are appearing for the Database Administrator role then you would not like to study dynamic programming a day before the interview as the company may ask questions about DBMS or OS in their interviews.
  • Make good utilization of time : When you get shortlisted from the aptitude test to interview, so generally there is no extra time for the actual interview, as utilizing your time becomes very necessary. After having a background search, if you think you are good in the topics that the particular company asks to candidates, then browser for most frequently asked questions on that topic. For example, any specific number of most frequently asked queries in SQL interviews, so there may be a topic in which you are good and another in which you feel weak. At that time, never revise the “good” part but focus on the “weak(may fill difficult)” part and prepare much more of that only. So when asked a question about some topic in which you are good, you will quickly give a right answer, but the topic which you filled tough then your revision will help you.
  • About correct answer vs correct attitude : There is a misunderstanding among interviews that if they have to get selected, they must give all the question’s answers. As to check candidates, the interviewer checks your attitude about how they handle the question at particular constraints. Even if you get 6/10 questions to answer correctly in a right attitude, you will get selected at the end. Here to be noted what is meant by right attitude- when a question is asked by the interviewer, you know the correct answer so don't answer 'right away'. React like you are hearing the question for the first time and then put your reaction in thinking cap on. Take a bit of time to revise and form the solution you are trying to say. Generally even if you get near to the answer rather than driving, what is expected  is good. Do not give up quickly, at the same time you must try to give at least some answer in max 2-4 mins, if you are not able to do that, then right away tell the interviewer that you are not able to solve this question, that will give time for another couple of questions for him/her to ask that you can answer.
  • Think out of the box: As in the interview you are given a coding question in which you have to solve the code. As the interviewer gives you the question and tells you to take your time and solve the question in 10-15 mins, give your answer on the paper. As the method may go wrong! While solving the coding question, it is important to think out of the box, that implies telling the interviewer what your approach to solve that problem means to have hints from them, what you are thinking at a specific moment when you are fixed at a particular moment. For example, “Suppose you have got an answer then you have to think how to optimize more and for mention time complexity” so don't think silently. This will show your explaining skills to them and that's what most of all companies seek.
  • If you can't code then give them a right logical algorithm approach: In interviews, you can face challenging situations where you have to know the right logical algorithm to solve a question, this may be the situation of lack of implementation skills or due to getting nervous in an interview, so you have to give them your logical approach and they may get your point of view. So in that case, you can clearly say to the interviewer: If you don't know the given code then you can write or explain the algorithm or pseudo code of the particular problem. If you are not able to write or explain the algorithm, then the interviewer may think you don't have or lack problem solving skills and you have less implementation skills and most of the companies do not focus you for further rounds.
  • Keep your work clear : When you are writing on paper the code in an interview, it becomes important that you should keep your sheet clean and readable rather than cutting or cancelling a lot of portions of the code in between and avoid writing it at the end, etc. You have to make a happy and friendly environment with the interviewer, it can be done by writing the code only when you are sure that it is right, there are no backspaces when literally writing with a pen. You can do this only by practicing and sharpening your skills.
  • Lastly, an important point: Stay cool and calm before the interview. As unknowingly we get nervous and frustrated, so it may get reflected in technical interviews. Your hard work and passion towards your work will be successful only when you are calm and presentable.
